Stressed..not a question
I hate that it is the little things that push you off of the edge. I had to come back to the hotel room during breakfast because I couldn't stop crying. My Mom simply said I can't shower alone after surgery and I said oh yes I am and that was the end of it ... Full tears. She has always had issues with my weight and for that I don't like her to be around if any clothes are off...with everything...the darn shower seriously. We did get a handicap room so there is a bench and the hose comes down. Will I be able to do that alone?
I told Dr Oro yesterday I will be taking myself to the bathroom and shower at the hospital. He said we will see lol. Am I expecting too much? Bathroom alone? This type A girl does not want help.

Good for you! Caution is the word of the day though, one fall can cost you many days.
That said - I can't say much as I did the same. Though looking back, at least in my case, I was not being as smart as I could have been.

:) in ICU it is just behind a curtain in the corner. I do have nurse watch me walk there and wait for me to come back. So far...not dizzy:)
...u r like me...i needed to feel independent and wanted to shower alone..till i almost slipped in the shower and i admitted i need help...be careful...thats my advice too

and lets not forget, you have already lost 20 pounds-which I personally think is wonderful. Be proud of yourself for having accomplished that!
I'm sure you have already had this discussion, but maybe you and Mom can sit down and lovingly let her know that the last thing you need is stress. So if she could just focus on helping you as a person in need, and not as her daughter that could help her remember to mind her words. I know this helped me when I became my mothers care taker. She was so uncomfortable with everything I had to do for her, I looked her in the eye and told her "Mom, I'm about as comfortable doing this as you are having me do it. Sorry, we have no other options so lets just do this and get it over with as quickly as possible and move on to something else". I had to seperate myself from being the daughter caring for my mother, to just caring for a precious human that needed someones help. I have also had to the same thing for my daughter when I had to be her caretaker during a 8 week healing procedure, otherwise I never would've gotten thru it.
And remember too, this is temporary, you will need help, and you are a very courageous person. God will get you through this.

Melody...u may care now, u will not later...trust me....
I needed my DH to help me once I was home.....and I did not like the idea of a shower, the water hitting my head....I wanted a bath, but getting in and out was not easy...my DH helped me in and out, and stayed close by in case I had a problem...one day I did, and I had to yell for him, I had a weird spasm and could not move...it scared me, and I was grateful for the help.
Be open to getting help, allow it, embrace it....
and once u r all better, I have a new weight loss idea that is supposed to be very helpful...

Oh my goodness. I'm a type A- A- A. I'm really bad at asking for help so yes be not afraid to ask for help. Even though I know how you feel. My daughter helped me to the restroom, but for me I didn't have a problem with shower's once I got home. I did have a shower stool which does help. I know 1 thing you loose your diginity after having surgery. People in my family has seen thing's they really shouldn't of. LOL....Love help's. You have a great Dr. on your side, so I don't think you will have a problem with anything. I like the suggestion of the wipes. I used them a lot in the hospital. Also I suggest J&J baby shampoo for the hair. Wish you the best. Just know we are there with you. Except when your in the bathroom LOL....Have a good day.
I am also Type A and I have to warn you - be careful of your type A-ness... I don't want to discourage you in the slightest, but after such a serious surgery you really don't want anything to interfere with your recovery, which means you have to be able to accept help generally... very hard for some of us I know!
If you prefer, there are pre-moistened bathing cloths that you can buy at any pharmacy (the hospital sent me home with some too) so you can clean yourself without showering at first. Nurses will help you in the hospital. As for your mom - I don't recommend trying your first shower alone if its within the 10 days after surgery, but maybe you can get by with the bathing cloths?
Then again, I had problems with dizziness for the first two weeks post op. Maybe others have had different experiences and I was a wimp about it lol.

thanks gator:) they said I could wash my head as soon as it is unwrapped? Day 2. Around the corner is cool just not in the shower lol.
I just had surgery on the 1/31 and was released 2/5. I haven't even attempted a shower, just baths. Can't get then incision wet yet. I find just knowing someone is around the corner if I need help is a comfort. The change in elevation throws off my balance and crashing in the tub is not an emerency call i want to have done!
