Surgery 6/17/13

I just had decompression surgery and was wondering how long it takes for headacches to stop. It actually feels more like muscle strain. The pain that drives me nuts is the pain in my temples when I cough. They said I handled the surgery great. No vommiting or nausea. I go back 7/5/13 for a follow up and get my stitches out

So glad to hear that you're home and up to being on the computer a little bit! It's great news that you handled the surgery well. As far as post-surgical headaches, I typically have one straight-through for the first 3-4 weeks after surgery, then intermittently as I'm healing. The muscle spasms in your neck may be causing tension headaches too. Sometimes the double ice-back trick works for me -- one on the back of my head and one on my forehead too. Take care!

It will take a few weeks, even through end of the month. You just had surgery, so your headache may be related to that and not the Chiari. When I had surgery my body rejected it. In recovery I could not stop vomiting. The DR tried everything and nothing worked. I was put in an induce comma for 4 days. Very strange when I came out of it and my husband told my what happen. However. Myself and two boys have Chiari been through many, many surgeries. If you are still feel headaches after a month. I would check back with the DR.

Did they show u how to do them and which ones to do?.....

Ur HA's could be ur meds too...so keep track of what type they are and how they continue....if they are worse after meds,,,etc....

Keep on ur med schedule, set an alarm to wake up as u need to stay ahead of the pain at this point other wise meds will not help how u feel.

I got home yesterday. The Dr told me to do light neck excersizes. They have me on Norco every four hours.

Hi when did u get home...??

I did not have HA's post op...but I did vomit from the meds....

Are u doing neck exercises to keep the muscles from getting tight? That can add to muscle pain and lead to HA's.....
My Drs had me doing the exercises while still in the hospital, but it does depend on what all they did and if they want u to start, the exercises help prevent scar tissue from forming too,

Are u taking ur pains meds on schedule?

I had my surgery 6/6/13 and it wasn't until about day 9 that I noticed the pain lessening. I honestly felt pretty awful in all ways. I am now 15 days post op, and headaches are few, just a lot of tightness and stiff in my neck!
Glad u handled it well, I had vomiting and nausea!
