Thanks for your help and more questions

Hello all again thanks so much for your comments.  I appreciate everything.  Within in the last couple of days I have lost complete control of my legs I have fallen 4 times, I walk kind of like I/m intoxicated.  We ended back up in the emergency room  because that 's where my neurologist told me to go .  Anyway he sent me home with a wheelchair saying there is no more they can do for me.  They said the 5mm Chiari is nothing and they should of never told me about it, meanwhile they can't explain the loss of motor control and severe neck ache.  He talked about putting me on topomax (topamax).  Will that help?  I've looked into Mayo Clinic in Rochester Mn, but can't get in their atleast for a month.  Meanwhile am I crazy to be`worried about my legs and thinking this is related to my chiari?  So far my teaching career is put on hold and my family (5year old twins) are confused about what is happening to their mom.  Thanks again for all your help.

HI Mel...I am sosorry...what a scarey  time u r having.....
I have to ask, were u checked for tethered cord or a syrinx...sorry I can not remember ur info......

But chiari related conditions like tethered cord can cause the symptoms ur chiari may not.

U do have a Chiari clinic in WI...did u try there?

Hi Selma,
I have only had an MRI done of my head.  Where is the clinic in WI, would they even consider a 5mm Chiari.  My current doctors do not think I need more tests.  There latest theory is conversion reaction.  Thanks for your help.

I am not sure, but chiari is determined on CSF flow and if the cerebellum is crowded.Symptoms are the other consideration in which the drs use  more so then just the herniation size.
