The BIG day!

My surgery is scheduled for January 13, 2010. WOW! Thankfully I didn't have to wait for prior authorization so I got one of the few slots left in January. I'm so nervous! I know what people meant about wanting to call back and cancel but I know I'm doing the right thing. I spilled food all over my kids twice today when my left hand thought it would be cool to just quit holding onto the bowl! I'm nervous though...and wondering how FAST the next two weeks are going to fly by! Any advice, I'm all ears...for Alex too because his is right after mine! How did I sneak ahead of you?

My prayers are being sent as I type this,,,, I wish you all the best and a speedy recovery.  It will probably be a week or more before you get to reading blogs, but know, we were all thinking positive thoughts for your continued strength.

Congrats on getting your date!!

I'm sure you are nervous and excited (and about a million other emotions in between)

I can't wait to read about how well you are doing afterwards!

Hello!  Congrats on getting in and the best of luck to you!

I had mine Nov 24th of 09.  Things I liked having was a U shaped pillow, usually in travel section meant for necks.  I loved having a mint to suck on when I just felt dry but was not ready to eat.  Definatly want button down shirts.  When I got home I wore V-necks backwards so nothing was rubbing on incision.

Much of what Selma already said.  If I think of something else I'll repost it here.

Hospital stay thoughts:
someone suggested having plenty of change for vending machines (very helpful!)
I also brought in some small snacks for myself so if I couldn't leave the room I had something there and I brought some tea packets as well...the nurses didn't mind getting me some hot water.
a book light was helpful for me because it needed to be dark in the room and then I could read without bothering him.

Post op
the things that were most helpful for my son were having a blanket folded into a U shape that would cradle his head but take some pressure off the incision (he had to lay flat on his back for 3 days)
and ice packs on the incision helped as well

to add to the above....I wish I had earplugs!! Very noisy staff at night.

I had for when I got to my reg room...my CD player for relaxing music...and audio books
............light weight PJ's that r loose and button down front.
...........special pillow
...........hard candies
...........toiletries
...........hand wipes/facial wipes
...........a hat or scarf ( for going home)
...........the nurses created a long tube from blankets to wedge behind my back to keep me from rolling....this was a big help.
