Tics anyone?

Here we go again, not only have I been losing my speech, left and right legs giving out on a continous basis, right arm not working and painful, neck/shoulder aches ----Today I started to get severe facial ticks, to the point where my face would lock up with my mouth and nose twisted for a half hour at a time.  (which felt like knifes cut my face)  It started with the blinking, then the nose twitching, then the mouth/nose twisting, then the perma smile locked in (like the guy on the vigra comercials) I couldn't find any info conecting this to Chiari.  My nuerologist finaly said he was cluess about me (that I defied all the rules of common medical practice) and referred me to Mayo Clinic in Minnesota.  I guess there is one neursurgeon there that specializes in Chiari.  I have to go through the whole rigamaro first again I guess.  I finally got to see my brain too!  My husband said it looked like the Turkey he just shot last weekend.  We try to keep a sense of humor.  The neuro said it was 5.2, but the spinal bones around it looked good, whatever that means.  Any comments would be appreciated.  I feel bad for everybody elese out there going through this.  Thanks Selma for answering all of our questions.  To anybody reading this the best thing I have found to do is to pray and have a sense of humor,  It has been the only thing that has helped my family cope with my problems and make me feel better.

Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.

Many with Chiari do get Bells Palsy like issues, but I am not sure it is exactly the same with the Chiari DX mixed in...May I ask, do u also have a DX of Chiari?....If so, what other symptoms have u had?

Mel- wow, so glad you posted this, so sorry you went thru it,  about 10 weeks ago I was at work and bam, left eye went out, went shut and my face went thru a period of sagging and smiles and twitching.  everyone thought I was having a stroke, ran to the ER nope no stroke, and no answers ( just found out 9mm last monday).  I hadn't seen any of that in particular mentioned on here so I didnt' bring it up, but when I saw yours it was like wow, yeah, me too,  and then Selma thanks so much that makes perfect sense. You guys are so helpful.

Hi Mel......I would venture to say u r having some compression on ur 6th nerve....I believe that is the facial nerve....it is also possible to have another condition with chiari....

I get weird things after I yawn like....my one eyelid closes and i have no control.I also get a weird twing in my neck it feels like the muscle is in a spasm.

So I am sure ur issue can be from a nerve being inpinged.

I am glad u still have ur sense of humor. And u r right...this site is the best place to get support.

Please keep us posted as to what this issue of urs is....
