The brain slump occurs when u have drs that take away too much bone...that is y it is better to see a NS that does nothing but chiari surgery as they r less likely to make those types of mistakes....
A NS that does an occasional PFD is not experienced enuff to know how to handle a "surprise" once inside....and that is possible...
Well, I had a PFD with the bone chipped and no slump...so far....and I am going on 2 yrs post op...most of those with slump do realize it in the first 6 months or so that something is wrong...and the NS many times does not recognize the problem.

I appreciate the input. I read some about it and it seems that the removal of the bone to make room is coming into question since it is more likely to cause brain slump. That alot of pediatric surgeries are done that way now? And it may be preferred to prevent that? It makes me nervous. I would hate to find out, Wow I needed those!
I have to agree with u on that one...they r there so they must serve a purpose...removal was done yrs ago and done less and less now a days....even getting them cauterized has come into question.
Mine were cauterized...and I can not tell u one way or the other if it was right or wrong....but I have not have ne adverse effects to date.
My surgery will be 2 yrs in May '11.
