I had insomnia as a child, have always had strange sleep/dream patterns, and I have a hard time sleeping due to severe nerve pain in my face. I take sleeping pills and the prescription Neurontin for it.
Well, right now I am sick off of the Tramadol. I don't like it. It's making me feel really weird. I was taking Marijuana, but that makes me tired and I already have an issue with being tired. Besides it makes me eat too much ;)
My sleep is like that too, I keep waking up. Ugh. Lately I have just been feeling really crummy with no relief. But thanks you guys, I know alot of people say it, but it's nice to have people to comiserate with. :)
The Nortriptyline I was on helped with sleep A LOT... if it did not have side effects it would have been nice just for sleeping better. Mostly I have a hard time staying asleep, I keep waking up all night long and sleep very lightly. I have no idea why I wake up so much. I tried ambien a couple of years ago just for the really bad times when I had not slept in days but even though my sleep was AMAZING I would sleep even worse when I stopped. That too I found was just not worth it so now I just assume after a few days of horrible sleep my body will have no choice but to have a good night :) I am very used to years of bad sleep.
Yeap, for years I have bounced back and forth between not being able to sleep at all to being so tired that I feel very irritable but still not being able to sleep. Other times its a 180 I sleep fine, just can't wake me up for nothing.
PCP believes it's related to muscle spasms in my back and neck [much improved now] so he has tried various muscle relaxers. The last few months he has me using Valium but honestly.. I rarely use it as I'm just tad afraid of the nature of that pill. I do use it when it's an absolute must. Most times I just try to focus my mind on making something in my mind or turn on a TV show that I know will bore me to sleep
One Dr told me a few years ago that a glass of Coconut Rum shortly before bed will relax the muscles and help you to sleep better. It does help but doesn't mix with some other meds you may take.
Guess that is a long winded way of saying, nothing really works in my case.

HI...yup....always have...since I was a kid....I found imagining I was decorating a Christmas tree to help me relax and as a child it was fun too.
I find it cycles like all my other chiari symptoms.....directly after surgery I slept much better....it may have been from all the meds.....and was short lived...a few months.
But, I can sleep better and teh sleepless nights r not as often, so it is a plus. I did go to a sleep clinic as sleep apnea is an issue for chiarians and that dr gave me meds to help me sleep....they didn't help, so I stopped them.
I was not rx'd tramadol and look forward to seeing how it may help u!
