Update on son - 10 months post op

Hi all
It has been awhile since I have visited. I thought about it, but it's funny, when things seem to be resolved, people don't spend as much time on these forums. Sad, but probably true.

My son had his decompression surgery 1/09 at WI Chiari Inst with Dr Heffez. He did well following surgery and after being out of school for only 2 weeks (about 5 days in hospital, the rest at home) he returned to school.  He is a jr in HS and had always been active in sports. He was given clearance for all sports about 2 months after surgery. He decided to go to competitive cheer instead of football and has done well with that sport. He began wrestling again, actually we are pre season, and went to a wrestling camp. Unfortunately, he had some old symptoms flare up over Fri night/Sat morning and I picked him up early on Saturday instead of Sunday. His back is hurting, headache,and light "flashes".  He is home resting and will go to the dr on Mon - if things get worse, will go to ER per his primary dr (who is wonderful!!)

So, up until this point, he has done extremely well. He did say that he has been waking up with his back hurting in the morning, which I just found out about of course. But otherwise, it has been largely problem free.

So we will wait until Monday and see what the dr says. I'm guessing he will order yet another MRI and we will be back on the merry go round for a bit. Hopefully it will not be major......

That's the update....it seems I have missed alot on here!  I'm glad I stopped back in.....a book, talk of newletter....awesome stuff!

Sheri it is soooooooo good to have u back. U r so right people that have things going well disappear from the forum...and to share the good will only help those still waiting on a surgery date  or confirmation they r a surgical candidate.

Yes there have been so many new features rolled out by MedHelp.

So Glad u r back, but so sorry to hear about ur DS. I pray the resolution is simple and quick.

Hey Sherri,
Glad you decided to post. I have often wondered how things were going and I thought it must be good cause you are not back here.
I hope they figure out what to do to get your son back up and going again.
We still did not get the surgery. We have the OK by the doctor but are still trying to make that decision and that step.

Went to primary doc today......and left a message at Dr. H's office for an appointment. My doc tried to call him but he was out of the office today.  We'll see what happens next.
