Vertigo 2 years post-op

I have vertigo post-op, and I just celebrated 2 years post-op so I don't know if I can say that was the cause anymore. My neurosurgeon did say due to the nature of the surgery, and that it messes with the equilibrium center of the brain we will likely suffer from varying degrees of vertigo for life. We just have to learn to live with it, and know our limitations. (I.e. I cannot bend my head all the way back or I risk blackouts). Is this normal or should I get a second opinion.

Vertigo tended to last longer for me....not short burst's of dizziness...and everything around seemed to be moving.....it was not just being dizzy. But I did sometimes trigger the vertigo with sudden turns of my head....or not paying attention and moving fast around the room and then I would have to grab onto furniture to avoid falling....Sounds to me like just balance and dizziness so far for you....

I also had extreme nausea with the vertigo along with some episodes, of vomiting.....

Hope that helps you figure out what is going on...

I tend to get light-headed after running around and not taking my time to do things. If I make sudden turns, or my center of gravity is off. The major contributor is if I look up and bend my head all the way back. (I have learned to avoid doing this. I don't know if it is true vertigo or just light-headed moments . This is what I am trying to figure out.

Hi...did they rue out related conditions?

If you risk a black out I would imagine more then Chiari is going on....ie- a retroflexed odontoid, or a bulging disk....

As for the continued vertigo...how often do you have it? How long does it last....at 2 yrs post op you could still be healing and I would get bouts of vertigo,, legs swelling, and all sorts of issues...at 6 yrs post op...that seems to be gone...with a very rare episode if I am trying to do too much all at once....

We need to learn to slow down to help avoid some of our symptoms....

But as for the vertigo, and possible blackouts...get another Dr to take a look at you.JMHO
