What drugs??

What drugs??

Hi there,
I'm tying up loose ends before my surgery Monday, and I have come across a concern and need to know if any of you have had this hiccup, and what to do.
In the past few years, I have begun having a histamine reaction to Morphine and Dilaudid, which knocks out Demerol by association. When I received it by IV in the hospital, I broke out in a rash on my chest, felt like I couldn't breathe - like a weight was on my chest (even though my pulse ox was 100%), couldn't entirely move my arms and legs, and couldn't talk.
So, there go the narcotics. Ummm, in two days they are gonna cut my head open, HELP?!
I figure they can sort it out while I am in the hospital, but from what I am reading about people's post op pain, it's a booger. I don't get tattoos because voluntary pain is an oxy moron in my vocabulary. This scares me. Any ideas?
One doc said the reaction might not be anaphylactic, just histamine type reaction, but would an anesthesiologist take the risk?
Chiari (I'm convinced) has made my  hyper sensitive to all medicines. The meds from teh cardiac stress test nearly killed me-- I mean they worked to get my BP up to 80/40 after the medicine knocked me unconscious. I know because that was the reading when I became alert again.
So I'm scared, and I want to know my options.

I also have major issues with drugs.... my list of allergies is a mile long.  I am allergic to morphine and have a weird reaction to dilaudid too.  I have taken Demerol without issue.  My doc uses something called Suphentanil I think is the way it is spelled.  I had that IV and did great. I had no pain that I recall until the IV's stopped to start oral drugs to get ready for discharge.  Something to ask about possibly.  I was also concerned because of issues with drugs and was told no worries.  I also have an issue with Zofran which they like to use for nausea and they used a cancer nausea drug called emend it worked great as well.   Definitely have this conversation before the surgery though.  But they have lots of stuff to choose from so try not to worry.  Good luck and keep us posted.

Hi...many of us seem to have a growing issue with meds...I was told it was most likely due to me having EDS...do u have that as well?

And u can speak with ur anesthesiologist in the OR b4 nething begins.....I was able to let mine know I had an issue with being intubated b4 and he made sure to use a much smaller tube this time and I had no issues at all.....I also let them know about the issues I had with meds...all were avoided...but I did develop new issues while there with morphine.....

The nurses and Drs worked to change the meds until I was comfortable.

I pray u have drs that r just as open minded....and I know u will do well.
