Where is your pain?

Hi everyone,
My Nuro Dr is still not convinced I have Chiari. I have a 5mm herniation that showed up on an MRI but because I have headaches mostly only on just the left side of my head (unless it is a really bad day) he thinks it is just a problem with a nerve. He says that Chiari is pain on both sides of the head not just one side. Is this true? Do any of you have have headaches on just one side mostly or is it always your whole head that hurts? Mine usually starts at the base of my head in back on the left side and then radiates up through the left side into my left temple and ends behind my left eye. Does anyone else have pain like this and been told that you have Chiari?
Thanks for your help,
Joshua

I have a 5 mm herniation and almost always my pain is left sided. it even effects my left eye sometimes. The left eye will get blurry and the right one wont. So yes, I would be willing to bet it's Chiari related. As I type this I am having pain behind my left eye, temple, and pressure behind the left ear. Sometimes it even effects my jaw and makes my teeth hurt, but mostly just feels like it's going to push out my eye. I was also told this wasn't Chiari, but I believe it is. When my pain is really bad then it is bilateral and I cannot pinpoint one particular place it is coming from because it just feels like everything is exploding in my head.
Hope this helps.

I have pain on both sides, but my herniation is wider and longer on the right. My rt side pain is always worse, plus the only side i have numbness and loss of sensation in my hand, arm, and foot.

My HA will start(if I ever get a break from it) with what feels like severe muscle tension at the base of my head, radiating into my upper neck, then I'll feel like I've been whacked real good with a 2X4 across the base of my head, then it'll progress into my eyes and forehead, with knife-stabbing sensations in my eye sockets. When it gets really bad, I'll have random knife-stabbing type sensations back behind my ears and the base of my skull, my temples,  and random spots on top too. Those HAs are really terrible. That's when I just want to grab my head and scream and whimper, and know I'm in for a terrible night. My HAs usually get worse or come-on in the evening.

Hi Josh, it is possible to be affected on only one side as the herniation can be bilateral  or lateral...with me, one side was 4mm the other 6mm...I had issues on my left....so , find a dr that is a true chiari specialist.....this one u r talking to is not.

I hope u feel better soon.

Hi Joshua,
My headaches were exacly like yours except they were on my right side.  It took me going to a chiari specialist to confirm that my issues were related to my chiari.  Hope this helps.
