Working after surgery.

Hello all~
As I stated before, I have my surgery on June 23rd. I asked my doctor about returning to work. His assistant told me that I would be able to go back to work in a "good week or two after surgery"! Does this sound right? He told me no lifting over 20 pounds for 3 months and no sports for a year and NEVER again roller coasters and I could not ride on my boat anymore.  He also told me the day after surgery Physical Therapy will be in to have me walking around.
I have read about people on the post after surgery stories and non have been like this. They have been in ICU for a few days and off work for 6 weeks..... Just asking!

I had my surgery with Dr. Di. I checked out of the hospital within 24 hours of surgery and went home. The first month was stiff and my neck hurt all the time but it wasn't horrible. I was at my daughters ball game about three days after surgery. Endoscopic rocks! So does Di! Good Luck!

Well that could be the reason for the differences in down time.....I have heard of this type of proceedure and there r pro's and con's to all surgery.

If ur dr says u will be able to get back to work in such a short time, I would imagine it is from experience in doing this proceedure.

I wish u all the best.

Please keep us posted on ur progress

My Doctor is Dr. Di at the Cleveland Clinic. He is doing the Chiari Endoscopic Decompression surgery. Has anyone had this type of decompression surgery yet? They say it is much different from the normal surgery. Less healing time is what I hear.  All I had was the 9 mm and the headpain, dizzyness, blury vision...big list of things. No syrinx or pusedotumor cerebri...

Hi Tina, since I have not had this surgery I can not say, but I do know everyone is different. Some have more issues going into their surgery and will require more time to recover.

May I ask is ur dr a chiari specialist? what r ur symptoms? Were other chiari conditions ruled out?....like tethered cord, syrinx, pusedotumor cerebri?
What kind of job do u have?

Some of the restrictions u mentioned are things u should be doing now already, not just after u have surgery.
