Worried about healing of scar

My head is becoming more and more un numb and my scar bothers me. I cant lay on it. It hurts when I wash my hair, brush my hair or even move my hair. It bothers me to touch it. And its weird the left side of my scar and head is flat and normal. Where as the right side is indented, like its sunk in or something. Didnt seem like it was like tjat a few weeks ago and it wasnt before surgery. Another thing when my boyfriend looked at it he sid it still look a lil crusty like. I get scabs off it every now and then. And in one spot theres a little bump on it. Like a stitch may be coming thru the skin?! I only know about that because my bf had two stitches come thru his scar on his shoulder and it looks very similar. Is that possible. My stitches underneath should be disolved by now. I had staples on the outside. Any comments would be appreciated. Im a little worrued about the right side beimg more sunken in.

You may want to check with your NS to be certain, but the sunken in indentation of the scar area is usually NORMAL. This is how scars heal when there is muscle underneath. The muscle tissue draws in as it heals, leaving a bit of an indented line along the scar. I also have the indentation and had the little bumps in some of the spots where the staples were. This is all normal as long as you don't have any sign of swelling or infection. My head was very numb for many months. As feeling slowly returned to different sections of my head, I felt more pain signals that had previously been blocked by the nerve numbness. Again, part of the normal healing process. It makes sense if you think about it. It takes time but it should get much, much better. I am just over one year post op and you can barely see my scar. I also had stitches and staples. The numbness is still there somewhat but much much better and I am confident it will be completely gone in time. Hang in there and try not to worry!

I'm kind of glad to hear other's have the indention in their head's.  I feel like an alien. LOL.  My hole back of the head is indented.  As far as the lump like stormy say's it is normal.  I am 1 yr post op and I am still having a problem with this.  Just came back from the pain clinic and they said it is your muscle that they have to move during surgery.  Muscles have memories so it is probably trying to remember where it is suppose to be.  Just keep taking it easy.  That is the important part.  It is a slow healing process.  I'm still dealing with it.  Be patient.

Again, I don't know how far post op you are...but it takes an extremely long time for the scar to heal. I remember getting scabs on it for months! I remember having a bump like you described right at the top of my scar and I had my stitches removed (they weren't disposable). I think that was just an area of my scar that took a long time to heal....I would get a little bit a clear liquid coming out of it occasionally. I couldn't lie on my scar either for a very long time. So it's probably normal but if you have concerns, I would direct them to your NS to be safe. Like I mentioned in my other post to you, everything about this surgery takes a long time to heal!!!
In the end I healed up perfectly and you can hardly even see the line:)

I am four months post-op and mine are not dissolved! I guess for some of us it takes a lot of time!  I never had good luck with dissolving stitches.  I have a pretty good dent where they took out the bone, maybe yours was off to one side a bit, mine is right in the middle but it does feel like a pretty good dent, just not what your head used to feel like.

the sunken in part is along the right side of my scar and the scar itself. its just above the bottom of my hairline up about 2 inches. its totally different than the left side. and sore of course. its in the same area where i think the stitch is coming thru. but wouldnt my stitches underneath be dissolved by now? its been like 3 months.

I have a stitch that is being a pain, it is one that should have dissolved (inner stitch) but didn't so the surgeon looked at it because it makes my incision sore in the spot it is coming through! He said it is not a problem, just will be sore for a while.  I admit it is a pain though and quite annoying!! The crazy head feelings are very normal and changing, I have had three surgeries and the feelings can be so weird at times, shocking at times, sore at times, numb at times, that just takes time to heal I think.  As for the sunken, no idea what you mean, where is your head sunken?  That sounds odd!

Hi...it is possible for the stitches to be coming thru...I have heard of this happening to others...I think it is if ur body rejects the stitches...again knowing if u have EDS helps understand all this.

The not being able to lay on the scar..I still don't...I don't like the way my head feels either and I am 2.5 ys post op...I lay on the side of my head.

I am also careful not to comb over that area until much later in my recovery....this all takes time.

And as far as the sunken in part, that u have to take up with ur dr as that would be how much bone was removed to cause something like that...

I had oozing for 9 month post op....I think that was the time frame..look at my journal....but, for those with EDS we r slow to heal...so that was not something to be worried about as I knew about it....

  Give urself time
