Yawning

I have a question,not sure if this is related to chiari though.

When i yawn, sometimes my jaws are fixed wide open for a short while.Sometimes i thought my jaws would stay that way. Has anyone else here experienced this? and could this be chiari related?

Hi...I did not have that, but there were times I got a cramp in my neck/throat area while yawning....

There is a relationship to jaw pain and TMJD...so , do ask ur dentist to take a look.

I dont know if its related but i have TMJ,
and when mine locks/Pops it hurts like a sob...

I have TMJ or so I've been told and I completely think it is Chiari related. My jaw pops, locks or just plain hurts when I yawn and the muscle from my jaw to the back of my head hurts if I laugh too long or even just hold my jaw open. I find I have trouble even keeping it open for a doctor to check my throat...

i had one dentist tell me it was because i talked to much as a kid....LMAO...

but iam with you on everything.......chewing sometimes is enough- and things like taffy  OMG horrible...

When my sing my throat feels like it's cramping.  When I yawn my head hurts, like it's getting squeezed.

This way too weird. Ditto Selma, serious neck & throat cramps.

It's just weird though, how many of these similarities are actually chiari and how many are a coincidence? My mind wants to say coincidence but it seems there are just too many weird symptoms that many of have in common. For the most part things that I"ve always felt were 'normal' parts of life.

I know Wolf...this is y I say to newbies do not discount u do not have "official" symptoms that the drs r looking for bcuz u most likely have had symptoms u accept as ur "normal"....
And don't even think of singing...I can't explain how that made me feel and my voice would just disappear like I was lip syncing .......

Thank-you all for your comments on yawning. I hav'nt seen this mentioned anywhere, maybe it is normal part of life, but no-one i know has had this happened to them who has not got chiari.
I've clenched my jaws tightly and bit my tongue and cheek often especially while eating.
I have experienced all of the symptoms mentioned here and many other symptoms chiari related that is in chiari websites texts.

I to have noticed I cant get through a whole CD when singing without my throat hurting. But at least I still can sing, that is all that counts!  My jaw pops really bad, and it is getting worse. I wont eat dense bread, it is just terrible on it. Recently eating chocolate is causing the same feeling of my right side of my jaw dislocating. Not pleasant.  But the main subject of yawning, lately I have been yawning alot and my jaw was popping after opening it only about an inch and was really painful. The other day I yawned and it popped way worse then ever, then after that it wasnt as bad for some reason, but now it feels like I cant open my jaw as far as I used to.  Just figured I would keep the thread going by sharing my experience....
