anyplace in Oregon to find help

My husband has suffered a debilitating headache for 3 years now.  He has a lot of the symptoms for Chiari malformation:  headache, sleep apnea, dizzy, hiccups (no kidding), heartburn, nausia, bouncey eyes, tingling in arms, pressure in the head, spikes that make him almost pass out, confusion, and more.  He is slowly getting worse and very depressed.  I think it is something to do with chiari malformation or a similar problem.  Is there any place in Oregon he could get help?  We have no insurance and limited resources.

Not sure if this will help you or not: most states now have a high risk insurance pool.  The federal option has no preexisting conditions.  The prices are not that bad, it may be worth checking into, the coverage will get him into see someone quicker than not, unfortunately that is the way it is.  I would check with your state and see what they offer.

Hi and welcome to the chiari forum.

U should be able to go to a clinic to get a MRi to see if he does indeed have chiari...but there r many conditions that do have the same or similar symptoms, so u can not dx just by symptoms.

We do have a list of chiari specialists, however we all do not have one near us and may need to travel.

I do know there is a Dr in Seattle that is not on our list, but u may want to check out.
Dr. Ellenboggan in Seattle, WA.

Just ne NS will not do for a chiarian, u will want a dr that is well experienced with this condition.

Please keep us posted on what u find out

Not sure exactly where you are in Oregon but, I would try OHSU in Portland.  I had some stuff done there and have a friend who just had a liver transplant done there.  It has been several years since I was there, but I think they have a program to help low income people, etc. that is kind of like an insurance program that you can only use at their facilities.  I don't know if that is something you would qualify for or not.  Even if Portland is a ways away, it might be beneficial to make the trip.
