chiari and drinking

does anyone have issues when they drink? I was decompressed 11 years ago and when I drink, even a little, I have strange reactions....I know...don't drink, and I have decided it is not wise but still hoping for an explanation?

So when I drink, my body burns, like my skin...to the point that it hurts, I get very confused and agitated and my body shakes like when you get the chills. Within a few hours after drinking, and I mean 1-3 beers, I feel like my brain can't think, its feels like a skipping record, my thoughts get stuck and I will over think the same little thought over and over, I can't control my mind. I got this reaction once during a massage also, halfway thru the massage my body started to burn intensely and I began to vomit and kept vomiting all night. I felt exhausted for days after.

I have never drank much or frequently but I have been accused of drinking more than I say by my boyfriend because he doesn't believe only one or two beers could do that to anyone. We have had issues over this because it hurts me to be accused of lying but also I have had no explanation he will accept.

Thanks for listening!!!

my son is only 15 so the drinking isn't an issue. But it's funny you have mentioned loopy. I gave him Bonjella for his gums (he'd hurt it during a seizure) Within minutes he was falling around and laughing as if he was drunk. Bonjella is something that is given to babies when they are teething so I never thought it would be a problem giving it to him. I was told it's probably the Alcohol in it that caused the reaction.
He had the same reaction but lasting much longer when his Epilim Chrono was increased. He had to be admitted to hospital for 4 days for that one. I was told for his size he should have been able to tolerate double that doze.
When we talk about these things we call them His 'Loopy Episodes'

That is exactly what happens when I drink it hits me hard and then I feel yucky the next day even though I hardly had anything.  Then my tolerance for pain meds is the other way and it is hard to find anything that works, I also notice that I absorb other meds differently, nice to know others share this problem I always thought it was just some weird thing that I had. Glad to have that question answered!

I've almost always had issues with drinking....no matter how little or how much I would drink.  I'm not sure what kinds of "reactions" yall are speaking of but the main one I always had was a MASSIVE headache in the back of my head that would hit either while drinking or when I would wake up in the morning!!  It was horrible....and far from a hangover headache...lol  So I have had to change my lifestyle unfortunately and just can't go out drinking and dancing with my friends like I used to love.....the pain just isn't worth it!  Wish I could help more... : )  Kristen

Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.

I would have to ask if u r on a med for pain?

A month or so ago I had some wine and got to feeling pretty loopy pretty fast, but I attributed it to not drinking.....

It may have to do with the infrequently we do drink and the altered way our brains make us feel already with out the alcohol....JMHO

I too have an issue with meds cash...so not sure what the deal is with this...hopefully a few others will input their experience so we can get an idea ????

Wow-I have same thing.  I was decompressed 4 months ago tomorrow but the last 5 years I just have horrible reactions to alcohol.  I don't drink a lot but would like an occasional drink with friends every now and then.  I also process medicine very differently.  It takes an elephant tranquilizer to stop my pain?  Would love an explanation also but nice knowing I am not alone!
