how long am i supposed to wait?

so, i still have no word from my insurance and it has been 2 weeks already. ive already called my NS office twice, and on top of that i am waiting on word for a prior approval for my pre-op and post-op appts. i would call my insurance but i really dont have a clue on what i am even supposed to ask them. how can i move things along? because i need to know asap so i can make plans on transportation, school, all of that. and if they are going to deny me, i need to find a new NS. i am just all kinds of impatient. any advice would be great!

I would call the insurance company....you won't be "bothering" them, they're not the ones that need the surgery...right?  Ask how long it takes to get prior authorization for the needed procedures and ask if you can do anything to help speed up the process.  It's always okay to be your own advocate!

well i did call today. all i was told was that my request is still pending. i dont know if that is a good sign or a bad sign. because my pre-op is in 2 weeks and my surgery date is set for 3 weeks on march 13. :/ i really hate this waiting game

I know it is hard to wait but we all need to develop our patience as we will all need it for recovery...we may feel better but refrain from doing too much too soon as it can cause set backs, the waiting to get back to life is going to be longer then waiting on the ins comp....sorry but it is true...so just sit back and wait....and if it gets close and no word call them again and again....((hugs))

I must have great insurance or be lucky. I didnt have to get prior authorization to have surgery. They thought at first I did, so I was going to have to wait a couple weeks to even know If they would cover it, but two days after seeing the NS, they called and said no Authorization was needed through my ins(we have one through my husbands work), So from First getting MY MRI to seeing NS to Surgery has been only one month. We seen a Local NS who is one of the best in the area as well. He is based out of a Small town of 31000 people so You are more then just a number, you are treated very well in the hospital and through the Staff at teh NS office.

Forgot to mention...sometimes insurance company "pre-authorizations" are only valid for 30 days....which is why some companies wait until the 11th hour to issue them and why some doctor's offices wait until the procedure is within that 30 day window...
