Hey,
I was born with hydrocephalus and in late childhood discovered I had Chiari Malformation during a routine scan. I did not have to have corrective surgery for the chiari malformation until I hit my mid-20s.
I don't know what is in store for you with having squired the hydrocephalus later in life, but my neurosurgeon said the first year after chiari malformation decompression surgery is a critical point in seeing if you will have hydrocephalus related complications.
Best of luck with everything and keep us posted!
Yes, a few of the members have both.....some have several conditions and this is why I asked as those related conditions can affect healing should you move forward with surgery.
I do not have hydro, but I do have EDS, tethered cord, CCI, retroflexed odontoid, hashimoto's,raynauds, reflux,IBS,along with my Chiari.
We do have a list for Australia, be it a very small list but if this Dr you are about to see is not in the list and proves to be a Chiari specialist please add her name to the list for any future members from your area.

does everyone have both hydrocephalus and chiari?
Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.
Chiari is the malformation of the skull which forces out the cerebral tonsils out onto the brain stem and spinal cord and this herniation can obstruct CSF flow..which in turn as it builds creates pressure and is referred to as hydrocephalus.
We do have a Drs list for a few areas...let me know where you are and I will try to post some Drs from that area if we have any....many times those DX'd with Chiari have to travel to get to a Chiari specialist.
Has your Dr tested you for Ehlers-Danlos, Syringomyelia and other related conditions?
