post surgery question

Im 2 1/2 weeks post surgery and came down with a MASSIVE head cold. ( I have 3 school aged kids that all have it as well so it was pretty much expected). I have the stuffy nose and cough but when I sneeze it feels like my head is going to rip open!!! Has this happened to anyone before?Any advice? I called my NS but she has been in surgery so i haven't been able to talk to her yet. Can this sneezing do any damage? I am also off all my pain meds so does anyone know if it is too soon to take some kind of cold medicine?

That is exactly what happened to me post op except I was only about 1 1/2 at the time. It was awful...I had all this pressure in my head anyway and then it just added more. I have 3 kids too and I assumed that it came from them. The worst part was that I can't use decongestants (due to med conflicts) so I just had to suffer. It was just like you described, way stuck up in my head and just caused this pounding feeling....

The only thing I found to help was to boil water and drop some vicks vapour rub in it, put a towel over my head and inhale. It would give some temporary relief..

The interesting thing is that when I told my NS, he was quite interested in whether other family members experienced the same thing, and he even wrote in in his notes. So I am thinking this may be something typical with this surgery? I know I have heard a lot of other newly post op people complain about the same thing.

It will be interesting to see what your NS says.

I hope that you clear it quickly!!!

HI Tia,

Well a Head cold is something u would want to avoid...try a face mask...I know u already have a cold, but to keep other germs at bay.

Next, see ur Dr for a nasal spray to help with the congestion and  the sneezing to help ur head.....

Call ur PCP about the cold if ur NS is  not available....

Not sure if it can cause damage as much as it can cause pain and discomfort.
