skin conditions related to chiari

has anyone with chiari experienced wierd skin conditions like your lips being chapped to the point of rash on side of lips and your skin just looking not right? I was diagnosed with it a couple of months ago although I think I have had it for years but the symptoms got a lot worse over the past couple of years; now they are coming so fast I cannot keep up with them. I have been on antibiotic cream for my lips; none of it seems to work, been to dermatologist a zillion times and they just tell me my lips are dry; but they cannot be dry for five years. I think they just do not know much about it and they sure haven't done much research on chiari compared to other conditions. Any info appreciated.

My daughter joke in the summer and says my legs look like snake skin.   I have a horrible blothxy tan this year and usually I tan very nicely even and pretty but blaaa. This year it looks like I spot treated my self with bleach.   My doc said it may be thyroid related but when checked my TSH levels are normal.  O think it is caused from pressure on the pituitary which would cause similar problems.   I am to the point that I blame everything on chiari.  Lol. Why not most Likely it is.  Lol.

Weird, I would have never linked this with Chiari either.  But, my lips sometimes burn.  Almost like they have been sun-burned.  This will last almost a month and clear up and has happened several times.  My lips are very dry and red when this happens.  Nothing I use seems to help.  It just goes away, and I think Oh, my lips are back to normal today.

I have no idea if this is related to Chiari.  I can't imagine this as a symptom, but nothing would surprise me at this point.

Good luck, I'm going to look this one up!

I grew up in Minnesota, and in the wintertime, everyone experiences chapped lips from time to time.  A trick I learned years ago - when you're brushing your teeth, in the am & pm, before you rinse your mouth, use your toothbrush to make one gentle swipe around the surface area of your lips.  Then rinse.  Don't scrub, just do it gently each time you brush, and the chapping should improve.  It's a habit for me now, and I just don't get chapped anymore.  I use Carmex at night before getting into bed.

I hope this helps.

I had horrible skin ever since I was a child my skin all over my body would get so dry it would crack and peel up and down my arms, legs on my tummy hands and feet and doctors never knew what it was from. When I met my surgeon for the first time he noticed it and said that is was very likely from the pressure on my brain causing problems with my endocrine system granted I had multiple other hormone imbalances. Being less than three weeks post op I have noticed a difference in my skin it is not nearly as dry as before and the cracks are healing. I do believe that the pressure was causing endocrine imbalances and causing my problem as almost all of my hormone levels that were significantly abnormal preop are now within normal limits or only slightly elevated or slightly low.

Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.

I have had times when my lips r a bit dry, but more so, they peel....I thought it was from what ever lip stick or gloss I used...I used a lot of vaseline on them as a result.....

It could be related somehow...this is one I never linked to chiari tho.....hmmmmm

I see u were in the expert and the neuro forums b4....we r happy to have u join us here, but not happy for the reasons u had to seek us out.

I hope u find answers and support here : )
