syrinx back injury

by gotcha007, Nov 05, 2009 03:35PM
hi everyone. im a company truck driver and was injured on the job about 5 months ago and was diagnosed with syrinx. i get very little help from the doctor and no information. i do know it runs from the t-4 to the t-11 in my spine. i have a lot of upper body pain. they sent me to a pain management place and things have went from bad to worse. they took me off my pain meds and gave me a mucle relaxer which does nothing except make me sleep. they then gave me a nerve damage test which hurt so bad it caused lower back pain for 4 days, (the test was on my left arm only). it seems like im just their genny pig to see how much i can take !! im trying to find more information and help because what little ive found says i could possibly be paralyzed from this injury !! i feel because its a workmens comp case they are just passing the buck if you know what i mean. any help is welcomed. thanks, john

Hi and welcome to the Chiari Forum.

I am glad to see u made it over and I hope someone with syringomyelia experience will post a comment for u.

IMHO any condition related to chiari u need to find a chiari specialist to help u get the info and treatment u need.

Since this is a workers comp claim?....u may need to go to their drs for  the first 90 days....so u r in the clear depending on ur state mandates...do check.
And there is a really good chiari dr in TN...in Nashville Dr Carl Hampf.

Do some research and see what u thik...we had several members use this dr.

It is ashame that chiari and a syrinx do not get the attention as a broken arm would...and most drs feel the symptoms we experience could not possibly come from our condition.

Know u r not alone and keep pushing for answers : )

oh John  I feel your pain in every way.  workers comp has been dreadful for me to work with and I am stuck with a quack of a chiropractor possible making things worse for me cause I had no where else to turn.  I so hope you get the help you need and fast.

I would try calling your workers comp i am not sure what yours is someinthng like careworks   adn ask them to give you a list of docs that are able to manage your care and then interview those docs and see which one is willing to refer you to a specialist.  as long as you are reffered from a workers comp approved doc the specialist will be covered.

i hope this helps and you can get the propper help you need and fast.   you deserve it and shouldnt suffer just because they dont want to pay more then they have too.

i will keep you in my prayers and feel free to pm me any time
