tattoo??

Ok this might be an odd question but I am hoping to get some feedback. About 3 years ago I was diagnosed with a "mild chiari malformation". I had done some research on my symptoms prior to the mri and had already assumed this would be the outcome. However the doctor told me it wasn't severe enough to need surgery and we did get the symptoms controlled through MULTIPLE medications. I lost insurance shortly after the diagnosis and haven't seen a neurologist in 3 years. Now I am considering getting another tattoo and I want to get it on the back of my neck but I have no idea if this is a good idea. Please advise me if you have any information on what the risk of getting the tat might be.

Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.

There r many Zipper heads that go on to get a Zipper pull tat at the base of their scar...but, I also know that one had to go for additional surgery and the dr said he may have to cut into the tat....so, not sure it is a good spot to go for a tat...or even if it would be a comfortable one to be in in receiving it b4 surgery just knowing how our necks tend to be.Plus as a chiarian we r told to avoid the hair washing sinks at hair salons...so I am not sure what type of support u will have....just something to keep in mind.

U can look at most of our profiles for pics of scars to see how many of them look and if u want to chance getting it and having it cut into....I know they can be pricey,.....

As for ur dx, please do urself a favor and see a true chiari specialist ..,one can only determine chiari as being mild by ones symptoms...not a MRI...
I do not have a tat and am not sure what type of motion or manipulations the artist may have to do to ur neck....how rough he might be...so, it may be something u may want to avoid especially if u r not having symptoms from ur chiari right now...this could trigger them.

I hope u choose to stick around the forum and keep us posted on how u r doing : )
