texas childrens ???

Tried to get my son in with Dr. Fletcher. He doesn't take our ins. He recommended Tx Childrens Nuerosurgeons. Can anyone give me any info on them. My son is 13 and has 7mm tonsillar ectopia.

U can also post a new thread to the forum and see if others know the Dr u r referring to.Also u can not post ur personal contact info on the public forum as u can see by the  stars....

Not ALL Drs or NS's feel Chiari can affect us the way we all know it does....u may need to look for a diff Dr....one that is a true Chiari specialist.....

Has ur DD had a recent MRI to see if there were changes?

How did your appt go with dr. Whitehead? My daughter saw him a yr ago. She has all the symptoms of Chiari and he said they were not symptoms of Chiari. Email me at ***@**** and let me know what you thought of him. All her symptoms are coming back. Daily headaches, neck pain and muscle weakness in her legs.

Well, u want to know if they say surgery..what type of decompression...boney , pfd w/ duraplasty or endoscopic...then what type of patch they use....lenght of hospital stay....ICU stay....PT for aftercare....what the ultimate goal the drs r trying to achive.

Was ur child checked for a CSF blockage, a syrinx , tethered cord or Ehlers-Danlos syndrome?

Thanks for the info. We have an appt with Dr. Whitehead at Texas Children's here in Houston and I asked if he specializes in Chiara and the nurse said Yes. I have sent over the CD images of my son's MRI and all Reports and Dr. Notes. Is there any specific questions that need to be addressed. while I am there?

He earned a bachelor of arts degree in biology from Washington University in St. Louis in 1988 and earned his M.D. with honors from The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in 1992. Dr. Weprin is licensed in Minnesota, Alabama and Texas. He is board certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery and is a diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners. In 1999, he was named an assistant professor of neurological surgery at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. He is a neurosurgeon with privileges at Children's Medical Center Dallas, Medical City Dallas Hospital and Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children.

Dr. Weprin's professional and scientific memberships include the American Medical Association, the Alpha Omega Alpha honor medical society and the Joint Section of Pediatric Neurosurgery. He has most recently published research on occult spinal dysraphism, complications of ventriculoperitoneal shunt systems and hemispheric childhood tumors. He has made presentations on topics including cervical spine trauma in childhood and adolescents, the evaluation and management of Chiari I malformations in childhood and adolescents, and malignant brain tumors in children

He is currently associate clinical professor of neurosurgery at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. Dr. Swift is certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery and the American Board of Pediatric Neurological Surgery.

Dr. Swift's research interests include the pathophysiology of Chiari malformations, neuroendoscopy in children and arachnoid cysts. He participates frequently in international pediatric neurosurgical training, most recently in Bangalore, India, under the auspices of the International Society of Pediatric Neurosurgery.
