using proton pump inhibitors for sm pain

I was recently diagnosed with syringomyelia after taking myself off proton pump inhibitors, which I had been using for 13 years (proton pump inhibitors include prilosec and aciphex).  When I googled "prilosec and syringomyelia"  I found out that the cavaliar king charles spaniel is treated for sm with proton pump inhibitors.  So I went back on proton pump inhibitors and the excruciating  pain went away.  The story is a bit more complicated than that but that is the gist of it.  Strongly recommend using over the counter ppis to cover the pain.  Do the google, you will see what I mean.  Does anyone else have a similar experience?

Hi and welcome to the Chiari and Syringomyelia forum.

I am intrigued. And wondered if it is pressure of the GERD that causes more pain with the syrinx. The King Charles Spaniel is also know to have Chiari as it has a very small skull. The problem with long term use of PPI's is malabsorption of vitamins one being vitamin D.  As we age we run the risk of bone density loss so just taking PPI's to alive that pain may cause yet another issue.
Have ur drs ruled out Chiari ? Have u gone to a specialist for syringomyelia and Chiari for guidance?

Sorry about all the questions, but do u know if ur syrinx is acquired or congenital? And what the root of ur GERD is...ie: hiatal hernia?
