Hi Lisa...yeah, we did have a few threads on this b4, but the temp and weather changes get to me....I get HA's as the barometer drops.....I prefer to be warm than cold.

Does it ever!!!! Temperature 'change' is perhaps the worst for me. We went from the low to mid-thirties here, where I was kind of functioning, to 4 degrees Sunday morning. We we went out to the car I wore a sock full of hot rice on my neck. No problems there. By the time we got to our place of worship the rice had cooled off so I went the short distance into the hall. Wow! The cold sent my head into like spasms. At first, not that bad but by the time we finished prayer and song I was done and still am. Yes, temperature change, for me especially cold, has a severe effect not only on pain but also cognitive function.

Chiari is a real pain in the neck/head!

thank you all for your response the reaon I ask is because I have noticed that being so cold temps in the negative, (-0 to -15) I noticed that I feel quite grumpy, Ya know like i just wanna rip into someone for no reason at all.

Now is this "change" related to the chiari or to the shunt?? NS seems to think its more likely a culprit of the shunt.

Sorry for those who are having a tough time
and I am happy for those who are managing well..

Hi Lisa, From how I understand it...any thing that affects ur brainstem can affect ur behavior and mood...both chiari and the shunt together could be the issue......

I do not have a shunt, so I can not give ne positive answers.......

I am grumpy too, but when ever neone feels bad they tend to bcome a grump : )

My wife actually notices weather changes by how I act. Sometimes I notice and yes it's because I notice the grumpy self coming out and have to nip it.

Sorry about the note. We'll have to take a look see what I've got checked that shouldn't be. :-\

cold brings on the worst symptoms INSTANTLY. It's awful how fast the cold sends me downhill. Warmth actually helps, but too hot dries out my airways and makes me cough...which causes symptoms. Hopefully that will disappear soon :)
Blank

so what i am experiencing is normal?

wow never thought id say I am normal! LOL

but thanks its nice to know iam not the only one going through this...

what i did notice is my eyes kinda hurt like, one of those dull headaches in the eyes. so i guess i will remain aware of the issues and see what happens next few days.
i got an appt to see my PCP and if i still feel like this when i see him i am going to ask him about it. see what he has to say.

HI Lisa,

Ask ur eye dr about eye protection......mine suggested I wear the transition lenses to help protect from the sun and it helps with the HA's...I also wear a hat with a brim in the summer.....

I also notice that the florescent lights hurt my eyes...so u r deff not alone : )

I have been wondering about the effects of cold and heat. I live in Ohio and recently took a vacation to Arizona where it's in the 70s! We are actually thinking of moving out there. I know the extreme heat will bother me as well but the weather in Ohio is so variable-snowy, rainy, cold or humid! I felt better for the few days I was in Arizona, and the tailbone pain I usually have wasn't even bothering me. It seems like most people on here agree that cold causes symptoms. I will have to ask my neurologist if she knows.

Blank
980510_tn?1282014546
went to doc talked about the crabbiness issue, and asked if hed check thyroid and OMG he said why you getting fat and losing hair and I bit my lip Selma Boy did i, I said look if youd bother to read those papers you make me fill out EVERY year since i been here you'd see there is a family history of thyroid, high bp,heart, and stokes in my immediate family so dont be asking me any BS questions read your damn forms!!... Ok now that i ranted and raved i thought for sure he was going to do what i was asking but to my surprise HE DID!! and even gave me the script for the meds i wanted....WOW..shocker! although i had to sign a "contract" for the flexeril because he said it was a narcotic(that kind of surprised me)
I asked him about temp changes with the chiari and shunt, and all he could say was i dont know much about either but it makes sense with the shunt and if your chiari is "fixed" it wouldnt be prevalant then he dropped the subject...
Oh after my little blow up he checked my BP again and magically it raised he was like i wonder why and i just looked at him like "YOU FOOL" and said well gee could it be --I said nah forget it let me go home...

so i got the thyroid test which came back normal but is higher then it was in April, I guess not to worry things change ALL the time. so thats good.
then from the hospitals suggestion being i still have that darn burning mouth from the thrush i had him check vit K and that was fine also.
so according to my blood work iam normal  now only if the rest of me felt that way LOL

have a great day all
GO VIKINGS!

You all mentioned the cold.  I live in Michigan, and it's the summertime weather that bothers me - and I LOVE summer!!  It's been in the upper 80's and low 90's here and I've had a headache ever since!  And Lisa, I'm grouchy too!  But guess I could blame that on menopause!  :)

CW ...well I fell just as crappy and crabby as b4 today...we  had ice and rain and will be getting more and it does affect me...ugh...but, I will admit, I am not as bad as when I also had to deal with my female monthly issues.....not sure if that is what made me more crabby or if it was a combo of the 2...lol....

But yes indeed weather does affect all of us......

I know this post thread is a couple days old, but I just noticed it and I had but my two cents in!

Yes - temperature change bothers me like mad! I live in an area where it can get down to -40s or colder in the winter..and sometimes it feels like my brain is frozen. It just hurts where the chiari is...so far I don't know that I have had worse symptoms when its cold...but I do know that when I went to africa last year my symptoms were nearly gone - which was interesting.

I also live in an area where we have Chinooks...and man on man do those things do me in. My headaches get worse, I experience vertigo, my vision gets funny...all because of sudden change in temperature and air pressure change! My symptoms go completely out of whack...I'm going to move one day.
Blank
1755089_tn?1333936375
I know what you mean! It's -25 outside right now and it's going to be -31 to night, and it will be +5 monday(in two days). I hate yo-yo weather chages.

Ditto selma...

This weird weather is something else. It's next to impossible to get your system adjusted so as to function in this weather. 16 yesterday morning got all the way up to 20 though, but now today it's up to 50... should be good news but the constant up and downs are just unreal in what they do to broken bones let alone with CM

you are so right Selma! Those LED lights on the cars give me HA.  I try to never drive after dark but even being a passager bothers me.   Oldest DD had a culinary competition Friday night and I had to drive...almost didnt make it home. She promised to she would finally get her permit and then drive me from now on.

Aw, we love Mooses at our house!!! (it was my F-I-Ls nickname). We collect them.  I have a friend that has a moose head her father hunted. I have offered to buy it to put on our wall.  Im sure its much different when trying to get home and not hit one with your car. And lose lights are horrible arent they. I hate even being the passagner in the front!  They must be great for the person sitting behind them as they must make the road very visable.

I love mooses to! Just not when driving.
A little funny story: When I was a teen I use to live litteraly in the woods. And we used to have a garden patch and flowers on the patio. One evening I was working in the garden when my mother yells at me:
- Look at the horse I wonder where is it's ridder?

I look in the direction where my mother is pointing and I see a very large she-moose walking slowly to the patio where my mother is sitting. I get up there and I tell to my mum who is half-blind (no kidding she is legaly blind) :
- Well I would pay a high price to see someone ridde a moose.

She didn't believe me! So got up and walk to the moose, and it looked back at her! She came back and sat back and told me:
-Yup that's a she-moose.

And she started to laugh scaring the moose. We still laugh at it every time we think about it! LMFAO

Even those new LED Christmas lights give me HA;'s...I am trying to buy back up lights of the old type in case or for  when what I have burn out....other wise I will not have lights....

BTW- my SIL's nickname is moose as well....

I didnt had no light in our tree this year! I couldnt find our old ones so I refused to buy new LED one, so no light in the tree this year. But it was still very nice.

Ah! I see!

No I cant stand LED light. My worst mistake actualy was to bring the kids to a visiting circus! They where selling plastic LED light-sabers and I believe that most kids in there had one! So after a two hours show in a dark arena and hundreds of LED light-sabber latter I only recale a trhee day HA and not a single performances :( . At least the kids enjoyed it!

I know what u mean, it angers me that the gov is trying to regulate what type of light bulbs we can use...there are way too many that these bulbs have an effect on, so what are we to do?.....If I had a warehouse I would buy up as many incandescent bulbs I could....
Blank
1755089_tn?1333936375
Yes so would I! My DH sometimes says that we are going to get a granny lamp with oil in it :) I hope not! The smell would be to much for me. So I'm planing to buy a lot of heavy Lampshade!
Blank
620923_tn?1335125657

Will a lampshade help?.....my parents use the new bulbs and I get a HA each time I am up there....and they do have a lampshade on the lights....not heavy ones...but,  I think it is the flicker of the florescent one that gets us....

Had teacher/parent conferences yesterday. Florescent lights everywhere! I was trying so hard to concentrate on the conference, but my stupid eyes kept doing a weird jerky thing and I had to fight to keep them straight. Im sure the teachers thought I was on something!!!!  I dont know how my kids sit there all day under the lights.
