6 year old boy shows his privates

by L1971, Sep 28, 2009 11:56AM
My 6 year old son and his friend were running past our neighbors backyard and out of nowhere my son pulls down his pants and showed our neighbors dog his penis.  My son flashed our neighbors dog!  They laughed and kept running.  I did go after him and brought him back home and had a talk about how his privates are private and that what he did was not ok.  He has never!! done this or anything like it before.   Should I be overly concerned about this?

No, you should not be overly concerned. Continue to set a firm limit on such behavior. Let your son know that if there is any repeat of such behavior he can expect some discipline. Should anything else of the sort occur, withdraw some favored privilege or activity (e.g., watching television, playing video games, riding his bicycle) for several days and give him a fifteen minute time out (i.e., sitting in achair quietly, doing nothing).
