We have a great 10 Yr. Old Girl that does well in school, plays sports and has nice friends. There are certain times maybe monthly or semi-monthly where she completely flips out over something that is minor. I know it is not minor to her but the screaming; crying and the angry words (not curse words) that come out of her mouth are upsetting. We try to talk to her calmly, we put our foot down and give her choice A or B only and the anger get worse to the point it becomes upsetting.
Her behavior upsets the whole family that includes her younger brother and older sister to the point where it can ruin entire evening or morning as we are trying to get to work and school. My wife wants to take her to psychologist because she feels that no child should carry on this way and something must be mentally wrong with her. I am fear full that if this does not change it will only get worse but I am not sure she needs to go to a psychologist. We did not have this behavior with older daughter when she was 10 so we do not know where this angry comes from.
You may want to talk to your pediatrician about it....it's probably more likely hormonal than mental. I also have 2 daughters (14 and 10) and my 14 year old started showing signs much later than my 10 year old. Everyone's body matures at different times. My 10 year old also went through severe mood swings, the first "stage" of it was around 7 or 8 yrs old and then again when she turned 10.
