13 Month old girl keeps hitting her head

Hello, I am very conserned that it may not be normal, or need to know how to stop it.
My 13 month old daughter keeps smacking herself on her head with her hands, and when she is very upset she will lay face down on the floor and bob her head up and down, smacking her face off the floor. This really scares me, i am not sure that its normal, and i dont know why all of a sudden this is happening, she is normally a very happy baby and there is no violence in my home. We dont even yell or fight so i dont know where all the anger has come from.
Could it have anything to do with teething? she has 4 molers coming in at the same time, once these are fully in she will have 12 teeth already, so i know she has had a hard time with them, but to do this?
If anyone is or has gone through this please help me figure out a way to deal with this and hopefully stop it from happening, i normally just place my hand under her head, so she cant smack her face off the floor, but its not stopping it for good, only that time.
Thanks
Melanie

my daughter does this when she is overly tired.

Both of my children went through that "phase".  Have you read any books like "what to do the toddler years" etc?  From what I remember it is typical at this age.  So many emotions and not the words to express themselves yet.  Perhaps try distracting her with something when she does it.

she sounds like she needs some help to manage her emotions without hurting herself.  when children get angry / in a rage they are indicating fear rather than anger.  they have so many strong emotions that they are overwhelmed with leads to fear which leads to destructive anger.  read up on how best to manage her emotions through a child care website (understanding babies / toddlers)

if it persists then maybe see a doctor / paediatrician?
