2 Year Old Daughter Biting and Hitting

My 2 year old daughter has just started biting herself and others as well as hitting and scratching. I get on to her about it, but nothing seems to be helping. I dont want to bite her back, because when I do she cries and says "Mommy You bite Me".. That makes me feel so bad... I really need some help on this! What can I do?

Has she seen this behavior from anyone else has she any siblings or is she at day care, relatives or babysitters. you say 'others'   make sure she hasnt learned the behavior as it will continue if someone else is doing it. I am not a believer in the biting her back behavior.She is old enough to be put into a time out by herself is she hits or bites others.or you, ,remove her from the situation and place her quietly yet firmly on a chair with a firm NO then walk away if she comes off the chair take her back. The biting herself seems to indicate some frustration, make sure she has plenty of attention ,fun and games. Get Dad involved playing ball games .
