2 year old speech and behaviour

Hi,

My ds is turning 3 in April and he doesnot construct sentences. He communicates to us by mentioning one word i.e Daddy, Mummy, Open, bathe, switch on/off, he can count up to 10 and he can say A-D, he can sing some songs, he recognises people in pictures and every thing else is normal.

He is however very active - when we go out to of the house, he can never sit down - he walks/runs without even watching where he is going and he never gets tired - he has a habit of running along side walls, vehicles, windows (anything in a straight line and at his eye level) - he runs side ways with his eyes fixed on the object - one level and he turns the eyes as he runs along - we find this behaviour not normal - please advise.

Hi, I'm a mother of a 20 month little girl. She is very inquisitive. Loves to be read to and is good at puzzels. She is interactive with children and adaults alike. She was slow to walk about 17 months she took off but was standing on her own and traveling around with one hand on the furniture. Now she is slow talking. She jabbers alot but only says No. Think, Think,Think. Wow. Clap, Clap, clap. She points and she is listening to every word. I think she is fine and is just takn her good old time. As she did walking. Should I be concerned or just see how she progresses until she turns 2? My one son didn't talk early either but when he did O boy he has never been quiet since! How do you judge?

It sounds like a speech delay,my daughter had the exact same problem. At her 3 year old doctors visit, the doctor pointed it out. So I recommend that you talk to your child's doctor. At first the doctor will suggest you to sent your child to speech evaluation in an elementry school in your area. But please do not go with an elementry school in your area, we tried that with our daughter but it doesn't help at all, it was waste of one year. But I guess you can go with that if you have no health insurance becaust the school theripies are free. But if you do have insurance ask the doctor to write you a referal for speech evaluation. My daughter went to the speech therapy for about less than a year and now her speech is normal.

He sounds like he has a sensory problem.  My two year old says a lot more than that--he may need to be evalueated it could be early signs of autism or ADHD--Sometimes it is always just best to get them evaluated and then either know one way or the other how things are going--it oculd something simple as being allergic to simething that can change their behavior.
