4 1/2 year old aggressive behavior

My son has been in a full day pre-k this school year.  he has been having problems with aggressive behavior like pushing, taking toys and getting angry.  he is also having problems following the rules of the classroom.  some days he is good - other days not.  he does well with his school work and completes his work everyday but often isn't following the rules of the classroom when it comes to getting up or sitting on the rug etc..  
we have had issues with aggressive behavior in other social situations as well - he is quick to hit/push when things get difficult socially.  I think the school is going to ask me to have him tested but i'm uncomfortable putting him in a box at such a young age.  Do you think it is a good idea to get him assessed?

Yes, I do think it is a good idea. You really have nothing to lose by such an evalaution. Your worry about 'putting him in a box' is really not called for. From a behavior management point of view, the issue can be addressed very well via the methods described in detail in Lynn Clark's book SOS Help for Parents (see www.sosprograms.com).
