4 year old daughter biting self

by tlilfrog, Jun 30, 2009 08:46PM
my 4 year old daughter has recently had bite markes on her arms. a couple weeks ago she put a bite mark on her upper arm. this week two days in a row, she put one on each fore arm. she bites hard enough to make it look like a bruise line, or a narrow hickey. i ask her if she bit herself, for a while she said no. but then said she did. when i asked why , i don't get a direct answer. i've gotten a few answers from she didn't know why to that her 5 year old brother bumped his head into hers so she bit herself. i'm not really sure if i should be concerned. in my adult mind, my thoughts go back to when my sister used to cut herself, self mutilation. my daughter is a very verbal child and i hadn't ever thought she had problems communicating her feelings. how do i know if this is something to be concerned with? is this normal? when should i be concerned?

Does your 5 year old son do any of this have you asked her if anyone else bites as children do copy each other, or pre school if she goes. Some of them do a kind of sucking like a hickey as you said , usually from an older child, check it out I suspect more is going on,
