4 yr old behavior

what causes a four year old to hit himself when disciplined or told not to do something. he also threatens to "cut himself all up" are his words. is this also dramatics on his part! i simply ignore him!

Maybe he has seen someone else do this and he could be seeking attention, you are correct in ignoring this but also ask him when he out of the Tantrum why he said it has he heard it, and also give him plenty of Praise and attention.Possibly there are other things going on at school or hometo upset him , has he a new sibling he could feel some jealousy over..
