4 yr old bites mum when angry

by peteandsara, Jan 03, 2008 05:46PM
I have a 4 yr old daughter who is incredibly stubborn and has what I call "roidrage" moments.  She is angelic 80% of the time, quite the clown and very entertaining.  But the 20% where she is in a rage is horrific.  She has always been a little neurotic with things like how she gets in and out of the car, which spoon she wants to use, how she wants her hair, which clothes today etc etc and anyone of these things that 'don't go right' sends her into a complete rage.  In these rages if she manages to get a hold of my arm she bites as hard as she can and it hurts.
On a social level I have been told to bite her back but I honestly think it wouldn't make a difference and I couldn't do it anyway.  She'd just bite me again in the next rage.
Got any ideas?

My son used to bite me too.  HARD  I woud walk away and come back about ten minues later.  I would show him the mark and tell him how much it hurt my arm and my feelings. I didn't show him anger; I showed him sadness.  He stopped after this.  I don't know how your girl will respond to this; but it took my son 2-3 times and his biting stopped.  Good luck for you

Sounds like my kid.  I bought a book with the title ,No Biting! and I read it to my daughter often.  I would make a sad face about the biting.  Gradually, she got it.  Actually, I think she got the idea pretty quick, but she didn't want to give it up.  She's a little sneaker.
