5 year old by pooping pants?

I am having issues with my five year old boy who has recently (5 months ago) started pooping his pants.  He seems to have soft bowels and at times diarrehea.  I do not know what to do as I have no idea if this could be a medical condition or if he is being lazy.  He is doing this at school, home, etc. approximately two to three times daily.  I have taken toys and favorite things from him and the incidents still occur.  I hate doing this but I am fustrated and confused of what to do at this point.

There is no need of your being punitive with him. This is especially so when you are wondering about the possibility of a medical condition. I'm assuming, since you are still wondering about it, that you have not had him examined medically. Do this right away.
