5-year-old is urinating on his bedroom floor

For the past couple weeks I have been smelling urine in my son's room. The first time I smelled it I just figured he had an accident and was too embarrassed to tell me. So, I asked him and he said yes. I told him that kids have accidents sometimes and just to let me know that way I can wash his sheets. I didn't think anything of it until a couple days later when I still smelled a strong urine smell. I asked him if he had another accident, and he said no. The sheets didn't smell bad or anything, but it was strong. I was in his closet yesterday and as I was walking out I stepped in something wet. I don't know why but something told me to check it out. It was pee. I talked to him about it, but he just says he doesn't know why he does it and that's all. He told me he won't do it anymore, but it seems really odd for him to do this. What are the possible causes for this type of behavior and should I be worried about something big going on or is this a normal stage that I'm unaware of?

My 7 year old has been doing the same thing.  I have found another search on the internet that said it could be an anger issue.  I don't know what to do about it.  We are going to see a psychologist this week.  Good luck.

I suppose there could be some pyschological issues but it could just be that he drinks a lot of fluids and then doesn't want to take the time to go to the bathroom. You might want to figure out when he's doing it-night, morning, while playing in his room...etc. I had that issue with my 2nd child. He would be playing and would hate taking the time to go potty. He had some accidents in his clothes when he was playing with his friends for the same reason. My first child used to have accidents in the middle of the night on the way to the potty. He just wouldn't wake up in time. Eventually they both grew out of it-although I did limit my oldest on fluids before bed for about a year.
