5yr Possible Night terrors hearing voices and sounds in his ear at night.

My 5yr old son has been having what I assume are night terrors on a off for the last month. Tonight he was screaming and crying after being sent to bed, I assumed he was having a night terror. He was awake and said that he was hearing a mans voice screaming mayday  and a sound that sounded like a rope being spun around. I calmed him down sent him back to bed he started crying again about and hour later saying he was hearing voices again and that they were coming to kill him. He says he only hears them when he lays down. Is this apart of having night terrors or something new?

Has your 5 year old been exposed to violent adult films?  Even for a few minutes, can influence a young child's mind.

Do not allow him to watch any adult programmes and films nor the news.
Only allow him to watch programmes suitable for his age group.
Do you have a light on in his bedroom or in the corridor with his door slightly open?  Some children are afraid of the dark, and will be fine and sleep well with the lights on.

Find out if there any issues at school that may be making him feel anxious.  Anxiety can appear in different ways with children.

At bedtime, be with him when he brushes his teeth and be with him when he changes into his night clothes.  Don't give him any cheese in the evening (if you do), a warm glass of milk (or milkshake) may help to calm him and help him sleep.

Stay with him and read him nice child stories - let him choose what he wants to listen to.  Does he have a favourite soft toy for comfort?  If not, he may feel more secure and safe with a soft toy that he likes.  Let me choose.

When children are frightened, their imagination can run riot and if he has caught any glimpse of films that you have been watching (even images on news of events going on), that too can prey on his mind.  So you need to help him by doing the things that I have suggested.

Once he feels secure (with the lights on and you staying with him until he falls asleep) he may just be fine.

Best of luck

I haven't heard of problems like that before. You might want to think of taking him to the doc. My younger sister always swore she could see people who had passed and they had to prescribe her some meds to help.

I am no expert but I would check to see if your house is haunted. Do research and find out if someone died there or if somethig traumatic happened there. That could be why he is hearing voices
