6 year Old lack of attention - problems at school

by Paula2710, Jan 28, 2008 02:28AM
Hi

My 6 year old daughter is having problems at school; she is a very bright child but according to her teacher she gets bored easily at school and only wants to do something once – after that she is more interested who is in the corridor, what other groups are doing, etc.  I am getting really concerned over it as this behavior is getting her to be bottom of the class and the teacher is of no help on how we can improve this.  Does anyone have any suggestions please?

Thanks
Paula

My daughter who is also 6 is going through the same thing. I am getting her tested for add and adhd. I don't think this is the problem though because she does exceptionaly well with her school work she just gets bored and starts talking and messing around. there is a high corralation between bad grades and add and adhd. If your daughter is doing well then I would get her tested for add/adhd and the doctor that will do this can also test her for being gifted. This is a common thing that is over looked in children who get bored in class and is often mistaken for add or adhd. Good luck.

My son is the same. We had him tested to ADHD. His diagnosis was that he is both gifted and has mild ADHD. Academically, he does great. But he gets really bored and frustrated some times so he misbehaves. His teacher is working with him and so are we-- in the hopes that he can learn some coping mechanisms.
