6 year old gets angry on mom

by ummehani40, Oct 31, 2009 03:03PM
My 6 year old daughter is a very smart kid, very responsible in school and behaves well with others. She also helps me around the house takes care of her sis very responsibly. But she get these anger tantrums on me "only' when something upsets her. She blames me for everything that goes wrong with her. Also says things like"i wish i cud hit u". She says sorry later on and realizes her mistake but that very moment when she gets angry she gets very disrespectful and misbehaves. Why does she misbehave only with me . I dont understand where I go wrong. I love her deeply and i know that she is a sensible person who knows she misbehaved and also apologizes every time.  Her behavior is bothering me for 2-3 years now and I am very worried and feel incompetent as a mother.

Such reactions in the face of denial of wishes are not uncommon in childhood. Ignore the behavior at the time - there is no point trying to intervene when she is so emotional. After she calms down, have her go to time out for ten minutes (sitting quietly). For any day during which she does not dispay such behavior, give her a modest reward.
