6 yr old pooping pants: what to do as a teacher

I am a childcare provider and I teach a kindergarten enrichment class. We have a 6 year old boy in our class who poops and pees his pants almost on a daily basis.  He will sometimes poop his pants twice a day.  He doesn’t seem to do doing this for attention, or because of fear of using the toilet.  He usually poops his pants when he is playing…I don’t know if he consciously decides to poop in his pants or if it is involuntary and he doesn’t know he is doing it.  However, he does not tell us when he has pooped in his pants..he doesn’t seem embarrassed or scared to tell us, just simply unconcerned with the fact that he is sitting in his soil.

His parents tell us that the pediatrician doesn’t know why he has accidents, and they’ve “tried everything” and just don’t know what do.  We have tried having him go to the bathroom on a regular basis to prevent the accidents, but this doesn’t seem to help either.

I have noticed that he doesn’t have good eating habits:  very picky, doesn’t eat much, and will always try to eat his desserts before the healthy items in his lunchbox.  Another characteristic of this boy is that he talks much younger than he is, and cries easily; however he is very intelligent when it comes to letters, numbers, etc.  I don’t know much about his home life except that he has a brother a few years older.  I don’t know if anxiety or any other psychological factors or abuse are happening at home, although there have been no other indicators of these things.

Have the parents considered this boy has very high functioning autistic traits?  This is not to say that he suffers from autism but just that he has some of the "traits".  You claim he is in the "enrichment" class but is that because he is able to remember concrete things as numbers and letters or is he able to deal with abstract points of view and new ways of "thinking" (this, I believe, should be the root of enrichment).  He does remind me of our nephew who has a phenomenal memory for anything to do with numbers and words but he was/is unable to think logicially or rationally without assistance.  For example - he could read almost anything in the younger grades of school but had no concept of the story re moral or perceptive issues.  He could remember license plate numbers but could not grasp the concept of basic mathematics.  He could retell stories but not "get" a joke.  Anyway, just wondering ....
