6 yr old wetting and pooping his pants

My grandson wets and poops his pants somettimes but will go days, weeeks without doing it. Once he was changed and immediatly wet himself again. Sounds behavioral to me but is he looking for attention, he is spoiled by us grandparents, his mom and he live with us, his father takes him on weekends and he doesn't do it with him.I have tried the reward system with no luck. I think occasionally he gets too involved with something and waits too long but we are mystified and looking for ideas. I think a mental health specialist is next, Thanks

hello....I dont have any useful information for u, but I can fell what u are going through....my son is about to turn 5 in sept, he was potty trained along time ago but for the past 6-8 months has been pooping his pants, he will sit in it all day if we dont regularly check him, it doesnt seem to bother him, but if we say something about it in front of someone else, he gets offended....here recently he has stopped doing it a lil bit but still does it on a pretty regular basis.....we have started to make him clean his self up and clean his underwear or pants out, and he has been doing it a lil less.....i'm not sure as to why they do it or anything like that but i have been trying to ask our doctor and everyone i know for months and they tell me all different things, like it could be for attention, maybe its accidental, maybe he plays to hard, my doctor thought it was because he was constipated, she gave him kids laxatives and stool softeners, and even with those he was only pooping like 1 time a week or every other week....I just dont understand....I wish i knew a way to make him stop, we have tried punishment, rewards, we bought him really expensive underwear of his favorite characters thinking he may not do it in those....it didnt work, we have used so much money on buying underwear and pants and shorts for him its ridiculous, he still to this day only has like 3 pair of underwear and one drawer of shorts and pants, he will sometimes poop in them and throw them in the trash so we dont find out, he doesnt realize that we use the trash can regularly or that we can see he has changed his pants....maybe someone can help us out with some information.....
