7 year old has a hard time in school

My question is I donot know where to go or what could be wrong with my child. My son is 7 and has an IEP for reading and language. The school also believes he has Ashburgers.( we have an appointment for testing comming up)  Well at a meeting the other day with the school, the Special Ed Department Head told me they are concerned for my son because he is not progressing. ANd he also is not retaining any information that they give him. They say he zones out, His eyes roll up in his head not all the way back but just up. then his eyes dart around and look glassed over. They tell me when this happends once they get his attention again he cannot remember anything they just told him. They said they are very concerned about what is going on in his head. At home I do notice he day dreams alot, and sometimes it is hard to get his attention. Do you have any idea what could be going on with him?

I was thinking absence seizures. I agree that you should see a pediatric neurologist.

It sounds like an aura.  I would take him to the doctor, and see if you can get him into a neurologist.  He probably needs an EEG.

Hi there.  I would make an appointment with your pediatrician as soon as possible.  There is a type of seizure that children have that are exactly as you describe.

I also think that if a child is having issues with language and the things that the rest of the class are doing, they may have trouble maintaining focus.

However, what you describe sounds like a medical issue.  good luck

So its mostly at school these behaviors are happening and not much at home ?Schools cannot diagnose but they can advise so I think as they seem to have a big concern something is wrong like Asbergers , that you take him to the Doctors for an evaluation, telling him what you have said her .Day dreaming I believe is fairly normal not certain what they mean by zones out' but i certainly think you would get some answers if he was checked out.  ..good luck
