8 month old won't fall asleep

We have an 8 month old baby girl and every night it takes up to an hour of crying in her crib before I resort to the only trick that works, running the hair dryer nearby (of course not aimed at her) so she can hear the noise. This works almost immediately but I am concerned about any affect this may have long term. Should we NOT use this method to help her fall asleep? I forgot to mention that my wife either breast feeds or bottle feeds her prior to laying her down in her crib. Sometimes she will fall asleep after breast feeding but never after the bottle.

Thanks for the feedback. TJones

It is also possible she has got used to falling asleep at the breast then wakes to find you are not there I would lay her down before she falls asleep so she will start to get herself to sleep. the hair drier shouldnt be near her as they are very powerfiul emfs given from them, I would leave on quiet restful music , leave the room do not worry if she fusses for a bit.

Make sure that she is full when going to bed at night.  Start winding down for about an hour before bedtime.  Brush teeth, get night clothes on. Sit and read books or watching videos.  Have her sit in your lap and run your fingers threw her hair.  Once she is relaxed and tired, full, it is bedtime.  Bedtime needs to be comforting.  The breast feeding is comforting for her and that is why the bottle does not work.  She needs comforting before bedtime to help her unwind.
