9 year old with possible Attention Deficit Disorder

by chezzylou, Apr 27, 2008 04:56PM
i need help, im 16 years old.
Imy sister, she is 9 years old.
The social worker thinks she may have a Attention Deficit disorder, but my doctor disagrees.
I dont know what to do.
She wont do as shes asked, she doesn't listen to a word anyone says and starts arguments for the sake of it.
I found a note she wrote, saying how she wants to die and that my dad beats her, Which is not true, he has never laid a finger on her. She only gets a tap on the back of the legs if she is behaving really badly.
She hits my mum, She throws things at her aswell.
She tries to convince my 4 year old sister everyone hates her.
My mum had severe postnatal depression after having her.

Also my dad has an anger problem which he doesnt acknowledge, this is fuelled by my sister. I have tried talking to a consellor about this but he couldnt help.

I cant take it anymore. I want to run away from it all. The only reason i dont is because il leave my mum with it all.
I break down every night, i feel so helpless.

You mentioned the social worker.  Are you and your sister in foster care? or have Social workers been investigating because of your sister's outbursts?  Some doctors won't agree to put a child on medications.  Your sister's teachers can fill out a form that you can take to the doctor that indicates the behavior.  When our doctor refused, we switched doctors.  It really sounds like you need a place to vent, and a good support system.  Life can be too stressful to deal with it by yourself.  Running away just causes a hundred new problems.  You mentioned a therapist, so it looks like you are looking for help.  Some therapists don't "click" with some families.  Keep shopping.  A good family therapist who does child psychology would be perfect for your family.  Dad needs to have a place to vent as well.  The best support system I can think of is a church.  You are in my prayers.  I pray that your family finds peace.

thank you, no we aren't in foster care. There are 6 of us me, mum, dad, brother, two sisters.
It is only when she is at home that she acts like this. At school they say she is perfect, cant do anything wrong. Its completely different at home though. The social worker got involved because my sisters lack of attendace at school, she refuses to go somedays and when she does go she is always nearly an hour late.
I dont know where to go for a therapist.
