9 yr. old Stepson plagued by anxiety and tension. Help?

My 9 year old step son for his whole life has suffered with tension and anxiety. I believe it's due to the volatile environment my X has raised him in. I just want to help him and am not sure how. He has a nervous stick where he chews on his hand. You can see the tension in him when he does it. It would mean so much if I could share a video of what I'm talking about in hopes I can help him cope with what he's experiencing.
Thankyou for your time.
Justin.

A volatile environment will certainly contribute to anxiety.  But, since I am also the CL for the ADHD forum, I am also very intune in anxiety in kids.  Anxiety is a very strong co-disorder of ADHD and usually caused by the ADHD.  So I am wondering how he is doing in school?
But, no matter how it is caused - this link will help you help him.....https://www.additudemag.com/slideshows/how-to-stop-anxiety-panic/?utm_source=eletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=october&mc_cid=855ba52173&mc_eid=b4704aad74

Hi Justin, I don't know anything concrete but I find that with my own anxiety it helps having an activity that keeps me out of my own head. I've always loved getting lost in a book but a fun physical hobby is best. Maybe you could find an activity for just the two of ye? Like exploring a forest for an hour or two...Along the way you might be able to figure out if there's a larger reason for his anxiety. All the best. Alison
