ADHD (too young)

Hello,
My son has been diagnosed with adhd and is only 2 years 9 months old (was diagnosed 2 months ago). His condition gets worse all the time. At the beginning I could hardly believe there was something wrong with him but now heīs hitting a lot, canīt stay still, tantrums and so on. At school he has a lot of this problems and is always alone.
Heīs currently taking 10mg of tofranil, side-effects such as a facial tic, constipation, no hunger and maybe anger, are arising.
Heīs also going to therapy twice a week and the other three days he goes to school. We are also going with a counselor/therapist (my husband and I).
My main concerns are:
- As soon as we started working with his hitting problem it got worse!! (when we started he didnīt hit much AT ALL) Now itīs really a problem.
- Tofranil brought side-effects since day 1 (prescribed by a neurologist). The tic worries me very much.
- Will he ever have a normal life?
- Iīm afraid to take him to school parties where other moms will be, he can really behave badly sometimes. He can play with only some kids and not for long, he wonīt lend his toys and will want other kidīs toys as if they were his, then he might hit me totally out of control (heīs done it before).
Any comments and/or advice are welcome!

It's unlikely that the collection of behaviors you describe can be attributed to ADHD alone. I think it makes sense to have your son's situation reviewed by a child psychiatrist. By doing so you can obtain a second opinion and some additional ideas about medication options for such a young child.
You and your husband are doing the right thing by participating in the counseling. This is absolutely necessary in the treatment of children, because you are your son's most important helpers.
