Seek a second opinion re: the diagnosis, and do so with a mental health professional. If, indeed, the diagnosis is primary ADHD, and there is no other emotional or mental health condition, treatment by the pediatrician or family physician can be fine. But, the diagnosis may be incorrect, or there may be ADHD alongside some additional condition. Now, having said that, there are many children who are tried on the various stimulant medications. Some children receive benefit from one or another of the medicines, and some children do not benefit at all.
