Adderall Behavior Side Effects

My son, age 6, started taking Adderall (adderrall) almost a month ago.  He started on 5 mg and recently been upgraded to 10 mg.  When he started taking the medication, we started seeing some improvements in his concentration level and his behavior was normal.  Now almost a month later I started seeing some bizzare behavior in him.  He would act out by screaming, or rolling on the floor when he doesn't want to do something or get his way.  I used to be able to just talk to him and make him understand.  He's more scared and hesitant to do things that he normally likes doing.  He would walk off by himself which is very alarming especially when it's towards the street.  Nothing I can do to persuade him from doing something he doesn't want to do even when he posts a danger to himself.  I am extremely concerned.  My son never ever act out like this before.  He's normally cool, calm, nonchallant and compliant kind of child .  Yes, he has problems with attention level and hyperactivity, but never this bizzare.  Is this a common side effect?  If so, how long will it last?  Should he go back to the 5 mg dosage?  Thanks in advance for your help

No, this cannot be regarded as a common side effect and it should not be regarded as acceptable. The most sensible approach is to suspend use of the medication, but do not do so on the basis of my opinion. You should confer with the prescribing doctor. The only way to determine with any certainty if the new behaviors are related to the Adderall (adderrall) use is to discontinue the medication and see if your son returns to his former level of functioning.
