Adderol Side Effects

My nephew takes Adderol for his hyperactivity.  He tends to have an upset stomach in the morning (mild nausea).  Is there anything he can take throughout the day to help curb this?  One other problem is that he loses his appetite by lunch.  I tell him to eat regardless if he "feels" hungry.  However, these side effects discourage him from taking the medicine; he almost has to be forced to take it.  Is there any way to increase his appetite?  The loss of appetite and nausea are almost a vicious cycle. Help!  What can be done?

hi everbody. I am an adderol survivor! I wanted to direct my attention to Chaser and cali4me. Chaser,your not alone in your feelings of fast pace awkward world. If you are still on adderol, please try to get off it. It's probly going seem hard at first but it doesn't last for too long. That's for you too cali4me. I did the same thing when i stopped taking it. I had to go on the highest dosage for a pretty long time until i started to feel really REALLY strange on an every day basis. I know i sound crazy, but i actually heard people wispering my name. i felt like i lost who i was and just a zombie that walked around and couldn't laugh at anything. I've been trying to think of some ways to get this off the market because i think it's terrible that there are young kids on this drug. If any mothers are reading this, PLEASE don't put your child on this, dont listen to the doctors!think of it as giving your 5 year old ecstasy pills everyday, because it's very similar, they both have the same main ingredient:Amphetamines. If your kids are really hyper active, watch out for the sugar. Also ive researched that other food alternatives can make a huge difference, (such as wheat).  Good luck

i am 16 yrs. old and have been on adderol for about 9months now. i am finding that in order to be able to function the whole day without growing weiry or tired i have to up my dosage in adderol, bc i grow immune to the dosage i am prescribed. i am not myself when i am on it and would like to get off of it. i have tried to get off of it but i am just soo out of energy and i eat uncontrolably. i got off of it for 3 days and put on 10lbs.. i know this is not healthy to acquire weight this fast but i dont have the energy to work out and do even normal every day errands as i normally would. I was wondering what i can do to get myself off of this medicine without going out of control.any suggestions?

Hello All,
(forgive me this is my first post) I am a 24 year old male that has been diagnosed with ADHD and am currently taking 20 mg of Adderol, about twice daily.
Okay, so, the first time I took adderol I had an unpleasant experiance. It was like shooting forward in a very un-normal way. My heart rate was about the same as when I go for a long jog or run but I was sitting still, my hands were shaky and was sweating profusely (there were also some strange mental effects that I am ill equiped to describe). My parents (Both are M.D.s. One orthopedist and one pediatrician)convinced me that the reaction I got was largly in my mind or produced by my mind. I spent the next 3 weeks convinced that I was walking a thin line between reality and fiction and it scared the hell out of me (I had also just moved and changed jobs and was already feeling unstable). After that "Speedy" incident I went from a dosage of 2.5 mg to 20 mg without a repeat. I told my shrink (Just a fun word not slander)about the "Speedy" feeling I had that night and he told me that when beggining medication this is not uncommon. I have I hard time beliving my shrink. I have a hard time believing my parents as well. I don't know what ethics shrinks opperate under and I'm not sure if he is being fully truthful about the reaction I had. In a way I was relieved that he had told me that my brain had not created all of what I experianced out of thin air, and I could once again trust my mind. This has been a much bigger bump in the road of my therapy than it ever should have been.
What I want to know is whether or not the strange (Okay it was really pretty crazy) reaction I had is common or even heard of. It is important for me to know the trueth about this because I must gauge the effectivness of Adderol on myself (This is very difficult because I have no idea what is caused by the pill and what is caused by my mind). If any one has experianced, or heard, of anything like a 10 mg Adderol causing an almost identical effect as a line of speed please let me know.

i have a sevenyear old who has not been diagnosed but who may have inattentive add- while she has a high 1q her school performance is poor- she is not hyperactive and is well liked by teachers and her peers - a beautiful child --my heart is breaking but the teachers are intimating that some meds may help her concentration - do the benefits of adderol etc really outweight the side affects of nausea insomnia and irritability and the addictive potential of these anphetemines

The medication should be taken with food; this will usually help with the gastrointestinal upset. Loss of appetite is a frequent side effect of stimulant medications, and your advice about eating on schedule, even without an appetite, is prudent advice. However, children often find themselves unable to follow such advice. If the child is healthy, and is not losing weight as a result of the appetite loss, it may not actually be problematic. It really depends on how he functions. Sometimes, but not always, switching to another stimulant medication can help, though Adderall tends to be better than some of the other stimulants in relation to the effects you are describing.
