Anxiety Separation in an older child

by Stephanie111, Jun 30, 2009 01:34PM
My daughter is 7 years old and is going through some anxiety separation, particularly with me (her mom).  We have a very loving close and stable family and we do everything for her and with her.  She is a good student, loves school  and has NO problems in school with anxiety separation.  She stays with her grandmother in the summer 4 days a week and it seems that when she is kept busy she is fine, but the minute she isn't busy it starts, with crying and wanting me  to come home, calling me, etc.  It is beginning to really stress me out, I have to work during the day and there is nothing I can do.  I have tried to explain that I have to work and that I will be there once work is over.  Any advice you can offer would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

It is best that you set a limit of one call to you per day. Otherwise it invites continuing upset. Me sure to pick a time that is convenient to you to receive the call.
